The Rustic and the Nightingale: Week 12 Story

In a garden filled with beautiful plants, grew a rose tree. This rose tree was the most beautiful thing in the garden. It grew roses that smelled so rich. It was the Rustic's greatest pride. Each morning, the Rustic would walk in his garden, through the beautiful flowers, and go to the rose tree. He would bring fresh water to pour onto the rose tree.

One morning, as he was bringing out the fresh water for the rose tree, he noticed something. A bird. A nightingale. The nightingale was perched upon one of the branches of the rose tree. The Rustic watched as the bird bounced around from branch to branch. But then, he saw the bird pull out a rose and pick the petals off of it. The ground was covered in petals that the bird tore off. This infuriated the Rustic.

The next day, the Rustic set a snare to catch the nightingale. He wanted to punish the bird that was tarnishing the most prized possession in his garden. When the Rustic came out again he had saw that his trap worked. The nightingale had been caught in the snare. He then moved the nightingale to a cage. The cage would keep the nightingale from ever destroying his roses again.

The bird was scared. He did not want to be trapped in a cage for the rest of his life. The bird did not realize that what he had done was upsetting to the Rustic. He did not want to be imprisoned for life for picking petals. The bird cried and begged the Rustic to understand. The Rustic felt sympathetic and realized that he might be over reacting. The Rustic let the nightingale go. The bird flew off into the sky and forever left the rose tree unbothered.

  1. Hi Megan! I really like your story. It does a great job of establishing how much the Rustic loves the rose tree and why he behaves the way he does to the nightingale. At the same time, you do a good job of making the reader feel sympathy for the nightingale. I think the moral of the story is that if the two had just communicated instead of the Rustic capturing the nightingale, they wouldn’t have had to go through all the trouble. Still, I’m glad it worked out in the end! Good job!

  2. Hi Megan! Your story was well written and I enjoyed reading about the Rustic and the nightingale! You did a great job showcasing the Rustic and his relationship with his garden, along with the emotions of the nightingale and his innocence. I liked the ending where the Rustic was able to realize he may have gone too far with the nightingale and let him free.
