Introduction Post

My name is Megan. I'm currently a junior at the University of Oklahoma. I am a Political Science major. I love everything about it. It is always interesting and because of the current political climate, the debates get very lively. Politics have always interested me and I love being able to learn more about their importance and how politics impact our everyday lives. My favorite class last semester was my Political Analysis class. It was so interesting and I loved researching for that class. I even conducted a research survey and was able to find out how much the media really impacts politics and what side of politics mainly runs the media. It was very interesting to see the results of that project.

I loved reading over quarantine. My favorite book I read was Looking for Alaska. I read many other books, but that one was very memorable. I also read the newest Hunger Games prequel which was amazing! My favorite TV show is The Office. I have seen the show at least 30 times through. I'm sad that it's off Netflix. I also really like Schitt's Creek. It is pretty funny! I love all things Disney, so recently I've been watching a lot of Disney movies. They are just happy and fun to watch. I also enjoy crime thriller movies. The Departed is my favorite crime movie.

I grew up in Southern California. I loved it out there. The weather is perfect and the beach is not too far away. I moved to Oklahoma for college and I love it. I will say I miss the beaches and mountains, but Oklahoma is very fun! I would love to travel all throughout the United States. I've never been out of the country but I would love to go to Ireland one day.

  1. Hi Megan. I am also a big beach person. I just think a beach is one of the most relaxing places you can go, because you can just lie on a towel and not have a care in the world. Normally during the summers my family and I would go to Florida to visit my grandparents and we would spend a lot of time on the beach, but we have not been able to visit them recently due to Covid, but hopefully we will get the chance this summer.

  2. Hey Megan, it's pretty cool you're from California and came all the way out here to Oklahoma. I bet the people and especially the weather are a lot different than back home. I have been out of the United States, but have never been as far as Ireland and I would also love to go to Europe.

  3. Hey Megan! Your love for political science is so refreshing! I bet the debates are always crazy but very rewarding. The way you are looking to learn about how politics impact our daily lives is so cool! I bet it was quite the switch moving from California to here but I am happy you love both places! Also, Ireland is also on my bucket list!

  4. Hi Megan, I think that it is so cool that you are from Southern California and chose to come to Oklahoma for school. I feel like the whole environment is very nice but, I guess with you growing up there Oklahoma is a good change. I have been to Ireland once before and i'll tell you that it is not going to be the last. I had so much fun when I went there, visiting places like the Guinness brewery where it all started, and going on a really cool Game of Thrones tour.

  5. Hi Megan! I also enjoy reading and wish I had more time to get into it. I have also read Looking for Alaska and it is such an amazing book and had a great storyline. I think it's so awesome that your from southern California because my current roommate/best friend is also from there so that so fun! What makes you want to visit Ireland?

  6. Political science is such a great program at OU, Megan! And I suspect the political debates are not going to go away anytime in the near future. And media means so many things nowadays compared to when I was in college: there are so many sources of news which is both good and bad... on the one hand it feels like more work to get my news since I have to actually decide what media I'm going to follow, but at the same time I feel like I can be better informed than back in college when there just weren't that many news outlets, at least not compared to now!
I lived in California for a long time too, but mostly in northern California. Every trip I took to southern California was always so much fun though... and someday (SOMEDAY) we will get to travel again, and I'll be glad to go back to California, north or south: I need a dose of Pacific Ocean. Then I'll really feel like we're finally on the other side of this pandemic!

  7. Hey Megan. Looking for Alaska is on my (dangerously extensive, at this point) reading list, along with some of the other John Green books. Reading was a great way to pass time during quarantine, although it feels like I came out of it with more books to read than I had when it started. Figures, right?
Hopefully you'll get to travel when things settle again, eventually. Ireland really is a gorgeous place, although I was only there for a stopover a long time ago. I'd recommend Australia as well, but only once you're used to flying - it's a ridiculously long flight, and the jet lag is no joke.

  8. Hi Megan!

I'm glad you like Oklahoma! There are many things I don't like about Oklahoma, but the things I love outweigh them which is why I stay. I've been to Southern California twice in my life, and I've loved both times! I like the stark difference in geography between the two states. Like you said - it's very hilly and mountainous in California, and I loved that about the state! I would love to go back someday.

  9. Hey Megan!

I am a senior here at the University of Oklahoma majoring in psychology and minoring in sociology. I have not read the newest Hunger Games book. What is it about? I love The Office. I was watching it but then Netflix decided to get rid of it, so I am somewhat through season 4. My sister introduced me to Schitt’s Creek, and it is hilarious. My favorite character would have to be Moira. I love crime movies, so I might give The Departed a chance. I would love to travel as well!

  10. Hi Megan! I have also loved reading more over quarantine! I listen to audiobooks all the time, and got to listed to a whole bunch while working in the garden over the summer. I just finished reading "The Priory of the Orange Tree". It's full of dragons and magic and old royal courts- I would definitely recommend it! It's a bit slow at the beginning though, just as a heads up...

  11. Hi Megan! I have a friend that by just reading the your intro you definitely remind me of! She is a book fanatic just as yourself? How did you feel about the new Hunger Games? She did a live update of her and another girl staying up that whole night and reading it but I do not recall much. I hope you are having a great semester so far!

  12. Hello Megan, I think being a political science major would be very fun and interesting because there’s always stuff going on. I also spent the majority of my quarantine binging shows. I binged all of Criminal Minds and NCIS. I want to be able to be carefree and travel the world someday so I think we have that in common. Good luck on the res of the semester!

  13. Hey Megan! It’s nice to meet you! I think it’s cool that you’re a political science major. It’s definitely a crazy time to be in politics (though I feel like we can say that about any time lol). I’m glad that you enjoyed reading over quarantine! I’m usually a big reader, too, but I didn’t read very much last summer because I was stressed. I DID watch Schitt’s Creek, though, and I absolutely loved it! Southern California is a beautiful place. I’ve been a couple times and loved it! I can’t wait to go back someday. I hope you make it to Ireland sometime. It’s on my list, too!

  14. Hello (again) Megan! I always wondered what the classes were like for a political science major. It seems very fascinating major. I would be interested to hear more about it! Also very cool that you are from Southern California. I never lived there but I visit often. Great weather! Lastly, I wanted to mention that I was also disappointed that The Office is no longer on Netflix. Maybe one of these days we'll get it back haha.

  15. Hi Megan!
Being a political science major in these times seems like a fun deal. There's no shortage of new and interesting material to work with in these turbulent times. I haven't read the Hunger Games prequel, but I enjoyed the original trilogy! I just watched The Departed for the first time over winter break, and I have to say it's one of my favorite crime movies.

  17. Hi Megan! I bet being a political science major is very interesting right now, and that media project does sound interesting. I also love The Office! I watched it a lot when I first got to college, and it was kind of like a comfort blanket a little. Jim and Pam are adorable. It was nice meeting you, hope you had a good semester.
