• King Dilipa is Rama's great-great-grandfather
• His wife Sudakshina had no children
• King Dilipa consults with the sage Vashishtha who explains that the divine cow (Surabhi) planned to bless him with many children
• He did not pay attention so now the blessing turned into a curse
• They need to atone by honoring Nandini, Surabhi's daughter
• Nandini tests Dilipa's valor
• He passes the test and is granted a son, Raghu
• Raghu becomes a young prince
• He is assigned by King Dilipa to guard the horse in Ashwamedha, a horse sacrifice 
• Raghu is crowned as king
• Raghu wants to conquer the whole world
